Protests over RBS funding

MEMBERS of Canada's native First Nations community were today set to use the Royal Bank of Scotland's AGM to highlight its funding of a controversial oil project in their homeland.

The native people of Alberta want the bank to stop what they say is its financing of the extraction of oil from tar sands. Protester Clayton Thomas-Muller said the project was "resulting in the destruction of people's way of life".

According to Friends of the Earth, RBS has raised 5.6 billion for companies involved in Alberta's tar sands.
