Protesters storm bank in tax demo

PROTESTERS held a demonstration inside the HSBC bank branch in Princes Street as part of a campaign against alleged tax-dodging practices.

A group of around 30 protesters staged the sit-in at the branch during Saturday lunchtime, with police called to disperse the group.

The demonstration was by Edinburgh's local UK Uncut protest group in the wake of the VAT increase and public sector cuts.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Uncut said: "We are taking this action because we are angry that the coalition government is not tackling the 120 billion in tax that the wealthiest in our society are avoiding paying. This situation is unjust and must be stopped."
