Protesters make stand in cuts demo

MORE than 20,000 people marched through the Capital to protest at UK government spending cuts.

Around 100 buses ferried demonstrators from all over Scotland to Saturday's march through Princes Street before a rally at the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens.

Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray and SNP Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill joined the protesters.

Banners on the STUC-organised demo proclaimed: "There is a better way."
