Protest over building switch

DOZENS of parents and pupils protest outside Broomhouse Primary against plans to swap their building with the over-subscribed Catholic school next door.

Children made banners with phrases such as "why can't we share?" on them, while parents donned T-shirts emblazoned with the words "say no to the transfer".

Campaigners are objecting to proposals by education chiefs to switch Broomhouse with St Joseph's RC – which share a campus – because St Joseph's is bursting at the seams and occupies the smaller of the two buildings.

Broomhouse is on the larger side of the school but has a falling roll.

However parents of children at Broomhouse say the move would be disruptive and lead to the school losing services – and they propose that St Joseph's is instead given a few extra classrooms from the Broomhouse side.

Councillors will take a decision on Thursday.
