He also represents Ports-mouth South, where the Ministry of Defence has significant naval interests.
The 64-year-old is a member of the Commons all-party Russia committee.

Among them, he has asked for the locations of berths for submarines, a request to publish a historical inventory of the country's nuclear arsenal and when the next design review of the Trident warhead will take place.
He is a former member of the Labour Party, but left to join the SDP for whom he first won Portsmouth South in 1984, before losing it three years later.
He reclaimed the seat for the Liberal Democrats in 1997 and has been MP for the constituency since then.
