Probe launched into Perth blaze in block of flats

A POLICE probe is under way after people had to be rescued from their homes when a blaze was started deliberately in a block of flats at the weekend.

Tayside Fire and Rescue confirmed yesterday the fire in the flats in Firbank Road in Perth was being treated as suspicious.

A Tayside Police investigation is under way into the source of the blaze on Saturday night, which forced the occupants of four flats out of their homes.

A spokesman for Tayside Fire and Rescue said: “We responded to a fire within a common close of a block of four flats at 19 Firbank Road, Letham, Perth, on Saturday night.

“On arrival, there was a well-established fire within a ground floor store room.”
