AN investigation is underway after an officer was found dead in a police station at the weekend.

PC Rhianydd Hitchcock was discovered by colleagues at Alloa police office in Clackmannanshire on Saturday night, around 7.40pm.

The 29-year-old officer, originally from Dumbarton, had a 14-month old daughter.

Senior officers launched an immediate investigation, with a post-mortem examination due to be carried out.

Chief Superintendent David Flynn, commander for Forth Valley said: “I am sad to have to confirm that following an incident at Alloa Police Office yesterday evening, Saturday, May 31, 2014, Constable Rhianydd Hitchcock, a 29-year-old officer in Alloa, has tragically died.”

A police spokesman confirmed last night that there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding Miss Hitchcock’s death.

He added: “Our thoughts at this very difficult time are very much with Rhianydd’s family, friends and colleagues.”

Welfare procedures have been set in place for officers and colleagues of Miss Hitchcock.
