Prisoners’ choir album raises £3000 for charity

AN album recorded by a choir of prisoners has raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Inmates at Addiewell, in West Lothian, covered tracks including The Who’s Behind Blue Eyes, Movin’ On Up by Primal Scream and Hard Road to Travel by Jimmy Cliff.

The record was produced by former BBC young musician of the year Shona Brown, with £3000 worth of sales being handed over to homeless charity Shelter Scotland.

Ms Brown said: “It’s had a great effect on the prisoners involved, for them to do something they enjoy and also make a positive difference.”

Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland: “This is a truly transformative project that brought together people on very different sides of the track and united them in a common purpose – singing and raising money for charity.

“Times are hard right now with funding for our vital services constantly under threat.

“Every penny of this donation will go towards helping us to end Scotland’s housing crisis for good.”
