Prisoner on run from open jail

A VIOLENT criminal has gone on the run after absconding from Castle Huntly open prison at Longforgan, near Dundee.

Tayside Police launched a search for Garry McGeown, 38, yesterday when he failed to return to the open jail following a period of leave in the Glasgow area.

McGeown appeared on a serious assault charge at Glasgow Sheriff Court in February 2007, when he was sentenced to six years' imprisonment.

He is 5ft 8 in tall, of slim build, with black hair and brown eyes and is clean shaven. He was last seen in Westercraigs, Glasgow, at about 10am on Tuesday.
