Prison sentence for street stabbing

A MAN who stabbed another man in a street fight has been jailed for ten months.

Christopher Neilson, 25, appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

He earlier pleaded guilty to assault to severe injury.

Jailing Neilson, Sheriff Donald Muirhead said: "The court is seriously concerned about knife crime.

"It's essential that we send a message to the community that people who use knives are seriously dealt with."

Neilson, of Jubilee Avenue, Livingston, admitted attacking Steven Arthurs in Broxburn in April 2009.

He originally denied repeatedly stabbing Arthurs on the leg with a knife, but changed his plea before a jury trial was due to start.
