Prison drug finds steady

THE number of drugs finds made at Saughton and Addiewell jails are still hitting 40 each month, new figures have shown.

A total of 206 drug finds were made between January and May, with 110 at privately-run Addiewell in West Lothian and 96 at HMP Edinburgh.

The figure, released in a parliamentary answer by Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill to a question from Lothians Tory MSP Gavin Brown, compares with 130 at Addiewell and 96 at Saughton during the same five months last year.

Mr Brown said: "We need a joined-up approach from the Scottish Government and the prison authorities in order to stop drug use in our prisons."
