Principal of Abertay University retires

THE University of Abertay has announced the retirement of its principal, Professor Bernard King, with immediate effect.

In February, King, who was also vice-chancellor, was relieved of his duties at the Dundee-based university by the chair of the university court.

The former principal, appointed to the post in 1992, was suspended following a series of issues raised with the court.

The university said it was unable to comment on the nature of the investigation while it was being carried out.

A spokesman for Abertay University said: "Staff have been informed, and the chair of court and acting principal will be talking to staff in person next week about this and about the future plans of the university.

"There are also a number of outstanding issues relating to Professor King's employment that remain to be resolved. Because of these factors, we will not comment further at this time."
