Princess to open epilepsy centre

THE UK’s first epilepsy research centre will be opened in the Capital today by the Princess Royal.

The Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre, based at Edinburgh University, where Anne is chancellor, aims to offer early diagnosis and treatment of the condition. Scientists at the £1 million centre – supported by the Muir Maxwell Trust – will focus on developing medical and educational treatments for children with epilepsy.

They will also seek to better understand the psychosocial impact of the condition. The team will also investigate the influence that a mother’s health and lifestyle can have on the likelihood of her children developing epilepsy.
