Princess backs Unicorn plan

THE campaign to secure the long term future of the 19th century warship the Unicorn has won backing from the Princess Royal.

Princess Anne, who is patron of the Unicorn Preservation Society, visited the Victoria Dock on Dundee's waterfront yesterday to mark the affiliation of the society with the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN).

The Unicorn, a 46-gun frigate built at the Royal Dockyard at Chatham in 1824, is one of the world's six oldest ships still afloat, and the society wants to relocate it next to the Discovery at the redeveloped waterfront.

Society chairman Lord Dalhousie said the affiliation with the NMRN was a major boost.
