Prince Charles and Camilla visit Scotland

Charles and his wife Camilla, who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, are to spend the day in Aberdeenshire with tours of Walkers Shortbread factory and Ballindalloch Distillery.

The couple will tour the new meringue making facility to at Walkers factory and meet staff at the site in Aberlour.

They will later unveil a plaque at the new distillery and meet members of the Macpherson-Grant family who run it.

The Duke and Duchess often visit businesses in the area, which is close to the Balmoral estate.

Joseph Walker founded his shortbread company in 1898 in a village bakery and his grandchildren and great grandchildren now run seven factories in the area.

The latest facility has been built to make meringues and mince pies, which the royal couple will no doubt be able to sample.

Charles will later be able to wash it down with a nip of whisky at Ballindalloch, described as Scotland’s first single estate distillery, which opened in September.

The owners harvest barley from their own farm, distil and mature the whisky on the estate and use the water which runs through the land.

It is said the micro-distillery will be able to produce at least 75,000 litres of single malt, but whisky drinkers will have to wait a decade before it is released as the owners plan to allow it to mature in casks.

Some samples are available for special guests and Charles may be able to taste the private collection on the estate.
