Primary school removed from polling station duty

PRESTONFIELD Primary School will not be used as a polling station in the upcoming by-election for a successor to Labour councillor Ian Murray, who is moving to Edinburgh south as an MP.

The by-election for the Liberton/Gilmerton will take place on September 9. All of the places that were used for the May election within the ward will remain the same apart from Prestonfield Primary, which was used by 150 voters.

Returning officer Tom Aitchison has chosen instead to use the nearby St Gregory's Church Hall as he said it would avoid closing a school for the sake of "a relatively small number of voters".
