Primark advert rejected

BUDGET clothing retailer Primark has been refused permission to hang a three-storey advert outside its store on Princes Street.

Primark wanted to use scaffolding outside its forthcoming store as a temporary advertising hoarding, but planners ruled that the advert would "significantly contravene" city guidelines on advertising in the World Heritage area.

The refusal is expected to anger Primark bosses in light of the chain's "significant investment" in the city and the trams.

Head of planning John Bury said: "Because of Princes Street's unique situation as a one-sided street that is particularly visible, adverts on scaffolding are specifically excluded."
