Priest injured as he grapples with church intruders

A PRIEST has described how he was attacked in his church as he confronted two intruders who were trying to steal from the building.

Yesterday, Father Piotr Koczorowski appealed for help in identifying two men who raided St Mary's Church, Inverness, at about 6:30pm on Wednesday.

Fr Koczorowski, who was not seriously hurt, said: "I heard the alarm and I went down to find two men. They jumped on me and one of them hit me. I struggled for a while, but they managed to escape.

"One of them ran into one of the internal doors in the church and broke it. One of them fell on the pavement and it seemed as if they had been drinking.

"I would ask anyone who saw these men to speak to police."
