Prevention is better than cure, says charity

A NATIONAL charity is calling on the government to help save lives and money by investing in accident prevention.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa) is urging the government to help people prevent accidents in their local communities as part of the Big Society agenda.

Rospa chief executive Tom Mullarkey made the call at Rospa's annual meeting today.

Mr Mullarkey said: "Without sensible safety information, people do not have the knowledge and understanding to make coherent decisions for themselves.

"And accident prevention … is the low-cost, low-intervention, empowering solution and some small antidote to the crushing cost of the NHS."
