Prestonpans' Pitstop Cafe in peril as funding sought

TIME is running out to save a social enterprise aimed at helping disabled youngsters get into the workplace.

Funding has to be found if the Pitstop Cafe in Prestonpans is to remain open.

The cafe was set up in 2009 and bankrolled with a two-year funding stream which is coming to an end.

"We're trying to avoid (the cafe closing] at all costs," committee member Margaret Thomson said.

"We're trying to make sure that's not going to happen. It's very much a case of trying to put ourselves out there, attract attention and apply for funding. It's difficult because there are lots of charities vying for funding."

The cafe previously won backing from East Lothian Council, the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and the Tyne and Esk LEADER programme.

"We can't reapply for the same funds again," said Ms Thomson. "We're trying to be self-sufficient but obviously we're a charity and it's very difficult."
