President of Cyprus apologises for blast

THE president of Cyprus has apologised for an explosion that killed 13 people at a naval base.

Appealing to the public for calm, Dimitris Christofias said that if two investigations into why dozens of gunpowder-filled containers which had been confiscated from an Iranian ship exploded last week found him negligent, he would take responsibility.
