Pregnant woman wins case

A MUM-to-be who was sacked after telling her manager she was pregnant has won her claim for sexual discrimination.

Lorna Gorrie was dismissed from Reactive Property Solutions last April amid claims her office was being shut down.

She had told her boss George Wilson almost a month earlier that she was expecting a baby.

Mrs Gorrie decided to take action against the Midlothian firm after learning a workmate - who she thought was also being fired - was still employed.

The 32-year-old has now won 5091 in damages after an Edinburgh tribunal ruled she had been treated less favourably because of her condition.

In late April 2010, Mr Wilson told the mum-to-be, of The Flying Scotsman Way, East Lothian, her employment had to be terminated because the administrative office was shutting down.

Mr Wilson maintained that the main reason for dismissal was cost saving for the business.
