Pregnant witness describes horror attack by three men with knives

A MOTHER-TO-BE wept in court yesterday as she relived the terror of an alleged violent attack.

Pregnant Wendy McPhee told how a man wearing a balaclava ski mask grabbed her outside her flat.

He put an arm around her throat and used his other hand to stifle her screams as he dragged her upstairs, a court heard.

At the same time, two unidentified men kicked in the door of the flat she shared with Craig Wilson in Bathgate, West Lothian, and attacked his brother Blair Gault with a 12-inch knife.

The flat was ransacked by the intruders, who were allegedly looking for cash.

Ms McPhee, 26, identified her attacker as Leroy Robinson, who is on trial by jury for the assault at Livingston Sheriff Court.

Robinson, 26, of Wester Hailes in Edinburgh, has denied assaulting Ms McPhee at Mill Court, Bathgate, on 10 December last year and damaging doors there.

Ms McPhee said she knew Robinson because she had met him before the alleged assault.

She said: "I was aware as soon as our eyes met that it was Leroy Robinson."

Under cross-examination she confirmed that she had not told the police the identity of her attacker in a 999 call.

She said: "I didn't tell them much apart from the fact that I'd been attacked by three men with knives. I was absolutely hysterical - I just wanted someone to help me."
