Power to the people with gas refunds

EDINBURGH North & Leith Labour MP Mark Lazarowicz has urged npower customers who overpaid for their gas supply to get their share of a £20 million refund still unclaimed.

In October last year, npower and consumer watchdog Consumer Focus announced the company was offering 70m worth of refunds to nearly two million people who overpaid for their gas in 2007.

Repayments range from 1 to 100 with the average payment at 35 plus VAT and interest.

Mr Lazarowicz said: "I encourage all current or former npower customers locally with a payment letter to take it to the post office or call the helpline."

Residents who were customers of npower in 2007, but have since left the supplier or moved house, are particularly likely to be missing out. Anyone who thinks they might be entitled to a refund should call npower's helpline on 0800 975 7938.
