Power fault leaves Rose St in the dark

More than two hundred homes and businesses on Rose Street suffered a blackout on Friday night following a fault at a nearby substation.

Scottish Power managed to return electricity to many homes following the 9.30pm power cut but 66 properties were without lights or electricity for around 12 hours.

A spokesman for the energy company said efforts to the get power back online were hampered due to "blocked access" to a substation within the building site of the new Primark development. Engineers had to wait until Saturday morning to gain entry to the substation and repair the fault.
