Pot luck at John Lewis

EDINBURGH staff at Waitrose and John Lewis were celebrating the news that they are to receive 18 per cent of their annual salary as a bonus this year.

The group, which is a partnership with all workers owning a stake in the firm, shrugged off the retail gloom experienced by other high street stores last year and announced record pre-tax profits of 368m - a rise of 20 per cent. The bonus pot for the group's 76,500 partners is 194.5m - up from 151m in 2009.
