Positive verdict as courts reconstruction honoured

A PROGRAMME of “mini trials” designed for school pupils was set to be honoured at an event in the City Chambers last night to mark ten years of the successful project.

School pupils have been seeing Scots law in action as part of the educational programme run by the Faculty of Advocates, which sees pupils take part in the realistic reconstruction of a criminal jury trial by convening at court, hearing the evidence, and returning their own verdict.

City education leader Marilyne MacLaren said: “MiniTrials is a fantastic initiative that helps young people learn about the Scottish legal system and the courts in an enjoyable way and develop their communication and critical thinking skills.

“Well done to all of those involved in the trials that have been running over the past ten years – they have helped thousands of pupils in Edinburgh and Scotland get a real-life taste of our legal system – on the right side of the law!”
