Porty plans a big welcome

Big Things on the Beach, the community-based public arts trust, is inviting the people of Portobello and Edinburgh to create a big welcome on the promenade on Sunday, July 24, from 3-6pm to attract visitors to the seaside town.

Individuals, families and community groups are invited to decorate tablecloths to celebrate an international theme ahead of the Olympic Games next year. The cloths will be spread from the "Cakestand" at the foot of Marlborough Street from 3pm, and the group hopes to cover the one kilometre of Portobello sea wall.

Chairman Damian Killeen said: "We would like the whole city to get behind this initiative."
