Porty beach ad campaign wins backing

A MAJOR advertising campaign to promote Edinburgh’s seaside has been backed by councillors.

Proposals for a branded campaign to encourage people to visit Portobello beach have been approved by the city’s economic development committee.

The marketing drive is part of a wider campaign to promote Portobello and its beach.

Local councillor Maureen Child, who originally called for action to help secure a Seaside Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful and to improve promotion of the beach, said: “I am very pleased about the programme that has been made.”

Posters in the style of 1930s resorts, which will appear on buses and bus stops, have been designed to showcase the heritage of the once-popular retreat.

Campaigners hope the next steps will be adverts at Edinburgh Airport and signs pointing towards “Edinburgh’s Seaside” in the city centre.
