Pop Idol star set to sing for the Pope

POP Idol winner Michelle McManus will sing for the Pope when he visits Scotland, the Catholic Church has confirmed.

She will perform before the start of the Papal Mass in Glasgow's Bellahouston Park, at which it is hoped Britain's Got Talent winner Susan Boyle will also sing.

The Hour presenter will sing a song written by her cousin Michael as part of the pre-mass entertainment programme.

The Church said yesterday it was delighted that Ms McManus, who is from Glasgow, is to take part in the event. A spokesman said: "It is a fantastic addition to what should be a wonderful day.

"It is a very historic event and I am sure it will be a tremendous event attended by thousands and watched by millions. It is a great opportunity for Scotland to show what a welcoming country it is to the world."
