Woman, 93, dies after waiting in hospital corridor

A 93-year-old woman died days after she was reportedly forced to wait half a day for hospital treatment following a suspected stroke.

Mary Scott died 12 days after spending six hours waiting for an ambulance and two and a half hours on a trolley in a hospital corridor in Paisley, her family said.

The claim came as First Minister Alex Salmond was heavily criticised at Holyrood yesterday over NHS waiting lists and the “crisis” in A&E units.

Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont said: “This is a national disgrace and Alex Salmond’s arrogance and complacency cannot mask the unnecessary suffering of Scots on his watch.”

Mr Salmond said this winter had been “challenging” for hospitals, but said waiting lists had improved under the SNP.
