What time will Dominic Cummings make a statement today? This is when Boris Johnson's top aide will face questions on Monday

In an unprecedented move, Dominic Cummings is set to address the cameras himself later today.

Mr Cummings caused outrage when it was reported that he had taken more than one trip to his parents’ home in Durham in early April, despite testing positive for coronavirus.

The Prime Minister’s top aide was meant to be self-isolating at his home in London when he made the 250 mile trip.

When will Dominic Cummings hold his press conference?

Dominic Cummings is set to make a statement and take questions from the press at 4pm today. It had previously been reported that he would speak at 3pm, but it has since been delayed by an hour. He will talk from Rose Garden behind 10 Downing Street.

What will Boris Johnson’s top aide say?

It is not yet clear what Dominic Cummings will tell the waiting cameras at this afternoon’s press conference.

He has faced calls to resign from all corners of the political spectrum, including from several conservative MPs.

Some commentators think Mr Cummings will use the opportunity to resign in dramatic fashion.

Former Gordon Brown aide, Damien McBride - who was himself forced to resign amid a scandal in Number 10, tweeted that Mr Cummings will resign unapologetically as though it were a “film of his life”.

But most believe the embattled adviser will use the opportunity to fight back against accusations that he has acted with hypocrisy.

The SNP’s leader in Westminster, Ian Blackford said the statement should be a “resignation”.

We will have to see which prediction turns out to be true.

Can Dominic Cummings actually make a statement to the press?

According to the government’s own Code of Conduct for Special Advisers, aides must not “take public part in political controversy.”

Point 14 of the code says: "Special advisers must not take public part in political controversy, through any form of statement whether in speeches or letters to the press, or in books, social media, articles, or leaflets.

“They must observe discretion and express comment with moderation, avoiding personal attacks, and would not normally speak in public for their Minister or the Department.”
