Westminster coalition has 'real benefits'

EDINBURGH'S only Liberal Democrat MP has highlighted the "real benefits" he claims the new UK coalition government will bring to the Capital.

Mike Crockart, MP for Edinburgh West, said the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition's programme for government included big steps forward in a number of areas.

He said: "This is a bold and ambitious agreement. It will bring real positive change for Edinburgh.

"The establishment of a high speed rail network is something that would make travel by Scottish passengers faster and greener, bringing benefits to both our economy and our environment."

He also highlighted a pledge to restore the earnings link of the basic state pension, plans to roll out super-fast broadband across the country and moves to ensure post offices can offer a wide range of services to sustain the network.

He said: "Changes will not happen overnight but it's clear in this document that there will be real benefits to Edinburgh."
