Watch President Donald Trump wade into yet another ugly exchange with a female reporter

The President told a reporter to keep her voice down and “relax” when she challenged his coronavirus claims.

President Donald Trump has berated a reporter at another White House Briefing.

He told CBS reporter Weijia Jiang to “relax” and to “keep her voice down” when she asked why he had downplayed the threat of coronavirus in February, despite warnings from experts.

On January 31, President Trump restricted Chinese nationals from entering the United States, in response to the outbreak.

But in February, with 11 confirmed cases inside the US, President Trump played down the threat and told reporters that coronavirus “is going to disappear. One day it’s like a miracle - it will disappear.”

The United States now has 770,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 - the highest number anywhere in the world, and more than 40,000 Americans have died from the disease.

At the White House press conference yesterday, Weijia Jiang challenged Mr Trump’s record in dealing with the virus, asking him why he held rallies with thousands of supporters in New Hampshire, Arizona, Nevada, and South Carolina during February..

“Why did you wait so long to warn them?” Ms Jiang asked the President.

Mr Trump asked her: “Who are you with?”

She told him she worked for CBS News, a major US broadcasting company.

“If you look at what I did in terms of cutting off, banning China from coming in-”, Trump began.

“Chinese nationals,” Jiang corrected, “but by the way, not Americans who were also coming from China.”

Trump held up his hands and told her: “Nice and easy, nice and easy, just relax. We cut it off. People were amazed. Everybody was amazed that I did it.”

“When you issued the ban, the virus was already here,” Jiang replied.

“How many cases were there in the United States when I did my ban?” Trump asked.

When Jiang tried to ask a further question, Trump told her to “keep your voice down”.

“I believe there were no deaths, zero deaths, at the time when I closed up the country, nobody was there, and you should say thank you very much for good judgement,” Trump said, before asking a different reporter for a question.
