Voters don't trust Blair, poll reveals

ALMOST two thirds of voters no longer trust Prime Minister Tony Blair, according to an opinion poll released today.

And a similar figure told pollsters Mori that they believed Mr Blair was "losing his grip" - a view shared even by 43 per cent of Labour supporters quizzed for the survey based on responses from 1002 adults.

The poll for the Financial Times found voters pessimistic about the Government’s ability to improve the economy or deliver on its key public service agenda.

Some 51 per cent of those questioned said the Government’s policies would not improve the economy in the long term, against 36 per cent who said they would.

On public transport, 39 per cent expected declining performance against 23 per cent expecting improvements - an overall rating of minus 16. On the same basis, health scored minus ten and education minus one.

Only 31 per cent of those polled were satisfied with the performance of the Prime Minister, against 61 per cent who were not.

And Labour was deemed more divided over the euro than the Tories, with 83 per cent saying the Government was split on the issue against 60 per cent saying the same of the opposition.
