Matthew McDowell and Fiona Skillen, academics and sports historians from Edinburgh University and Glasgow Caledonian University respectively, spoke to The Scotsman about research they have conducted into the opening ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games held in 1970 and 1986, both of which were staged in Edinburgh. In the interview, they

explained the social and political impact of the Games on Scotland since first arriving 44 years ago.
