The Proclaimers: Legendary Edinburgh rock duo announce they are backing the Alba party

Iconic Edinburgh duo, The Proclaimers, have announced that they will be backing the Alba party in the upcoming elections.

In a video posted on social media, the chart topping pair said:“Hi we’re the Proclaimers and we’re backing Alba for the Scots Parliamentary elections in May.

“We want to build as big a majority as possible towards putting pressure on Westminster to grant Indy ref two.

The twins, Craig and Charlie Reid, have always been vocal supporters of Scottish independence.

Former First Minister Alex Salmond launched the Alba party, which will appear only on the list vote, on March 26.

The party are aiming to gain a ‘super majority’ for the Independence in the Scottish Parliament.

Many high profile SNP politicians have already made the move over to Mr Salmond’s new party including Kenny MacAskill and Neale Hanvey.

The Scottish Parliamentary elections will take place on Thursday, May 6.
