The killing of George Floyd has led to protests across the world.

The George Floyd protest will take place in Glasgow on Wednesday

Glasgow will be hosting ‘Take a knee for George Floyd’, a socially distanced protest on Wednesday organised by Stand Up To Racism.

SUTR has called for a coordinated protest on Wednesday, June 3 at 6pm across the United Kingdom, saying the action is “against police brutality, to demand justice for George Floyd and against the disproportionate BME deaths from Covid-9.”

The group also asks that people contact them to say whether they are going to take part, and only then will the location be disclosed in order to maximise safety during the pandemic.

George Floyd was a black man killed in Minneapolis by a police officer who knelt on his neck for over eight minutes.

His death has led to world wide protests, which have escalated in the United States, with images of police brutality and rioting in many cities across the country.

Nicola Sturgeon has come out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, taking to Twitter to say: "If you can only be tall because somebody is on their knees, then you have a serious problem” - the words of the late, great Toni Morrison.

“Racism is an evil that none of our societies can claim to be immune from. But we must stand against & eradicate it.”
