Sturgeon in talks with IMF chief Lagarde

Nicola Sturgeon held “productive” talks about the Scottish economy with IMF chief Christine Lagarde, it has been confirmed.

The First Minister also discussed the issue of getting more women into work during a meeting talks with the French managing director of the International Monetary Fund in Washington.

They were joined last night by the chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, Lena Wilson, and the Scottish Government’s chief economist Gary Gillespie.

A spokesman for Ms Sturgeon said afterwards: “The First Minister had a productive discussion with Christine Lagarde on the current position of the Scottish economy and the Scottish Government’s approach to increasing competitiveness and tackling inequality.

“The First Minister and Ms Lagarde also discussed the shared interest between Scotland and the IMF in increasing female participation in the economy and improving the representation of women at all levels in business.”

Ms Sturgeon’s four-day trip to the US ends today with a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations.
