Steel quits in protest at SNP attacks on court

FORMER Holyrood presiding officer Lord Steel has quit a Scottish Government advisory panel because he was “appalled” over recent attacks led by Alex Salmond on the UK Supreme Court.

In a statement described by one politician as an “extraordinary broadside” against the First Minister, Lord Steel warned that the SNP government would face a “growing number” of official complaints against ministers unless it toned down its language.

Lord Steel spoke out a day after the SNP administration announced two new independent advisers to consider complaints of breaches to the government’s ministerial code.
