The couple were congratulated by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who said: “I’m delighted for Angus and Jennifer and I wish them every happiness.”

Well-wishers added their congratulations on social media. Posting a wedding picture on twitter, Mr Robertson, 45, wrote: “Very lucky to marry the lovely @JenniferDempsie today. Thanks for the best wishes.”

And the bride wasting no time changing her name Tweeting from: Jennifer Robertson: A very happy day thanks to my love @AngusRobertson

She played a key role in the Yes campaign during the independence referendum and had intended to stand as a candidate for the SNP on the Highlands regional list in May’s Holyrood elections but withdrew to focus on her business career.
