SNP MP left 'red faced' over criticism of Donald Trump state banquet

Chris Law deleted a social media post criticising those attending the dinner, who include SNP leader John Swinney

An SNP MP has been ridiculed after his criticism of those attending a state banquet with Donald Trump backfired.

Chris Law, who represents Dundee Central, said to go to the dinner was to concede “that it’s acceptable to support genocide in Gaza”.

However, his own party leader, First Minister John Swinney, is among those attending the event at Windsor Castle.

Mr Law deleted his social media post, but not before it was spotted by journalists and political opponents.

His post on X had read: “Sitting at tonight’s banquet dinner with President Donald Trump, is conceding that it’s acceptable to support #GenocideinGaza after yesterday’s publication of UN’s report on Gaza.”

Scottish Conservative MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said: “There will be red faces all round in the SNP after this now deleted tweet from Chris Law.

“Clearly, he was in such a rush to post a childish tweet that he forgot all about John Swinney being someone attending this dinner.

“Such an embarrassing episode indicates just how confused the SNP are on this issue. Chris Law should focus on representing his constituents, rather than playing at student politics.”
