Self–Directed Support

This is designed to place greater control and responsibility in the hands of citizens in social care.

Will impose “firm” duties on local authorities to ensure that services provided are “designed around the citizen and not the service”.

Proposes a ten-year programme of reform, offering new models of support and compelling local authorities to set out the options available to citizens and “make it clear that it is the service user’s choice as to how much control they want to have” over care they receive.

The bill also proposes to widen eligibility to those who have been excluded from services and offer increased support to carers.
