Scottish-US links praised by Hillary Clinton

HILLARY Clinton, the US secretary of state, sent a message “congratulating the people of Scotland” on St Andrew’s Day yesterday.

Mrs Clinton cited the long history of cultural ties between the two nations dating back to the founding of the United States. She also said Scots should know that “the United States stands with you as a partner and friend”.

Her message read: “On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to congratulate the people of Scotland as you celebrate St. Andrew’s Day.
