Scottish independence: Susan Boyle will vote ‘No’

SCOTTISH singer Susan Boyle has voiced her support for the pro-Union Better Together campaign, saying that she thinks Scottish Independence isn’t economically viable.

The West Lothian entertainer, who found fame after winning Britain’s Got Talent, told The Sun in an interview: “I strongly believe Scotland should remain part of Britain.

“I am a proud, patriotic Scot, passionate about my heritage and my country. But I am not a nationalist.”

The Blackburn native added that she felt the country had held onto its ‘proud identity’ as part of the Union, and that she shared many of the ‘same concerns’ as other undecided voters over independence.

Ms Boyle, born to Irish parents, revealed that she was proud to call herself ‘Scottish and British’.

Prior to her success on the talent show, the 52-year-old had relied on benefits to help her care for her mother Bridget, with welfare playing a role in the singer’s decision to vote against independence.

She said: “Welfare helps many of the most vulnerable in society. I don’t believe you should break what’s working.”

SuBo also touched on the issue of membership of the European Union, and what currency an independent Scotland would use.

The singer stated: “We should remain a part of Great Britain and instead of wasting money on this change, we should put it into the areas that need it the most.”

Musicians such as Karine Polwart, Annie Lennox and The Proclaimers have already voiced their support for Scottish independence, ahead of the referendum in September 2014.
