It is understood the proposal is being considered by the UK Government after Mr Moore put the idea to Lib Dem Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg during campaigning this week in Scotland.

Mr Moore, who negotiated the Edinburgh Agreement which allowed next Thursday’s

referendum to take place, believes it would be wrong for the parties to “simply saunter off” to the planned party conferences over the next three weeks.

The most likely date for a one day recall is Thursday 25 September, a week after the referendum and the day after Labour finishes its conference.

Mr Moore said: “We cannot simply saunter off to the party conferences for a month without some chance to discuss what has just happened.

“If this Parliament is to have any continued claim to represent Scotland then we cannot just ignore what has just happened.”
