Scots ‘need all the independence facts’

SENIOR MSP Margo MacDonald has offered to join a task force during the independence referendum to ensure Scots have the full facts about what an independent Scotland would be like.

She said a group “without airs and graces” was needed to take the heat out of the debate and ensure that voters were properly informed about issues such as an independent Scotland’s role in Europe, Nato membership and the monarchy.

The independent Lothians MSP said academics and figures from Scotland’s trades union movement could be part of the group in her submission to the Scottish Government’s consultation on the referendum.

She said: “Everyone knows I’m a nationalist, but we need to have a group without airs and graces that allows Scots to have all the facts before they vote.”
