Scots ‘better off than neighbours’, research shows
SCOTS have more cash in their pockets than many citizens of the Scandinavian countries whose living standards the SNP wants to emulate, research has found.
Scotland also fares better than many parts of the UK in the amount of goods and services that their income can buy – their real disposable income, the analysis by Professor David Bell of Stirling University has found.
A Scottish Government spokeswoman said: “This underlines that Scotland is a hugely wealthy and productive country – more prosperous per head than France, Japan and the UK itself. It demonstrates what can be achieved when we are able to exercise greater control over our own affairs.”
But Labour’s Jackie Baillie said: “This highlights again the benefits to the people of Scotland of pooling and sharing resources.”
