Scotland ‘needs access to Europe’

SCOTLAND needs to be given fairer access to key decision-making bodies in Europe, a Nationalist MEP said yesterday.

Professor Neil MacCormick told a meeting in the chamber of the Scottish Parliament that the Convention on the Future of Europe, set up at the Laeken summit of 2001, provided a real chance of drawing up a clear constitutional document.

The SNP MEP denied it would lead to a super-state and argued that it would be a "better constituted confederal union" that emerged.
