The soldiers paraded through the streets to show thanks for the support of the public.

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are Scotland’s most senior - and only - cavalry regiment, and returned to their base in Germany in February this year after a six-month deployment in Kabul.

The unit is set to return to Germany in the next few days to prepare for significant changes.

Under Army restructuring, the regiment’s role will change from a Heavy Cavalry Regiment with Challenger 2 Battle Tanks to a Light Cavalry Regiment using Jackal Armoured Vehicles, and will switch bases to RAF Leuchars in 2015.
